Chemigrams were discovered by Pierre Cordier, who intentionally began using darkroom chemistry as paint and darkroom paper as canvas. What appears is mostly happenstance, though certain conditions can be coaxed out of the process.

In addition to the chemistry and paper, this process requires access to running water, though this process can be done under normal room lighting conditions. Aprons and nitrile gloves are suggested as well.
